Matt Johnston, CEO
Matt began his career at the age of 23 consulting exclusively to the retail brokerage industry. Matt sought to help retail brokers, managers and teams grow their practices and add more value to clients. Over the course of 7 years, Matt worked with over 4,000 financial advisors in every major firm on Wall Street and built or developed more than 100 teams per year.

In 1998, Matt joined Smith Barney. Matt held senior level roles in professional development, business development, marketing, national sales, fee based asset management and wealth management. Additionally Matt worked in the branch system as a client advisor and branch manager.

Matt also served as the Director of Business Development for Regions Financial / Morgan Keegan where he developed niche market strategies and initiatives to drive new business revenue and advisor productivity. He also helped launch several private banking platforms and initiatives in an effort to more comprehensively serve the wealthy client.

Matt has been quoted in industry publications such as Registered Rep and Research Magazine and has spoken at various industry conferences such as the Banking, Insurance and Securities Association (BISA) and Investment Management Consultants Association (IMCA).

Matt holds a BBA from Georgia State University and the Certified Wealth Strategist designation.

John Taylor Rhett III, Chairman, Senior Managing Partner
John Rhett has more than 37 years of investment banking and brokerage experience and has recently retired as the Chairman and CEO of SunTrust Investment Services.

In September of 2013, Mr. Rhett joined both Red Rock Strategic Partners and Red Rock Advisory Group as their Chairman and Senior Managing Director. These businesses are dedicated to advising financial institutions and private business owners on the complex strategic decisions that confront them in these unprecedented times.

In August 2001, Mr. Rhett launched a new brokerage firm, Alexander Key Investments, a subsidiary of SunTrust Capital Markets, to focus on corporate and corporate executive clients of the investment bank. In 2005, he merged Alexander Key Investments with SunTrust Securities to form SunTrust Investment Services with over 500 Financial Advisors overseeing $40 billion in client assets. He held this position until his retirement in 2013.

His career began at Merrill Lynch in New York as an instructional trader on the municipal bond desk. In 1980, Mr. Rhett joined the investment banking firm, Robinson-Humphrey, where he was head of Municipal Trading and Marketing for six years. After an eight-month internship as an over-the-counter and block trader, he was named manager of the firm’s North Atlanta retail brokerage office, eventually operating under the Smith Barney structure. He held this position until 1999. Under his guidance the client assets grew to over $2 billion. Subsequently Mr. Rhett was an Angel Investor and Advisor for private, growing businesses and enterprises.

He is a past president of the Atlanta Municipal Bond Club, and a past member and co-chairman of the Smith Barney Branch Manager Council. He also recently served on the District 7 FINRA Board of Directors. Currently, he is a guest lecturer for undergraduate and graduate studies with the Georgia Tech College of Management.

Mr. Rhett’s other civic responsibilities have included serving as vice chairman of the Parish Council of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church. He is the past Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Center for the Visually Impaired and currently serves on their endowment committee. Additionally, he is a Trustee of Marist School in Atlanta and chairs the investment committee. Recently he has also been named to the Development Authority Board for the new city of Brookhaven, Georgia.

Mr. Rhett earned a degree in industrial management from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1976.

Scott Dixon, Chief Operating Officer, Senior Partner

Scott serves the Red Rock team as Chief Operating Officer. With more than 23 years of experience in the financial services industry, Scott’s knowledge and skills will help Red Rock’s clients achieve their business objectives.

Prior to joining Red Rock, Scott served as Executive Vice President and Financial Advisor Channel Manager for SunTrust Investment Services. He also held the position of Executive Vice President and Private Wealth Management Line of Business Manager for the Georgia region. In that role, he lead multiple Private Wealth teams responsible for managing individual client needs through a multitude of solutions, including brokerage, fiduciary, family office and high network banking solutions. Scott also has experience in multiple wealth investment management roles within the organization, including managing Financial Advisors in multiple geographic locations. Scott began his career at SunTrust as a Financial Advisor in the Atlanta market.

Scott graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in Mathematics from Mount St Joseph University

John Hagedorn, Director of Coaching and Consulting
John recently joined Red Rock as Director of Coaching and Consulting. John works with individual advisors and teams to develop and enhance their practices.

Before joining Red Rock, John worked with Branch Managers and financial advisors in the formation and ongoing support of team structures at the Hagedorn Institute, A.G. Edwards & Sons and Wells Fargo Advisors. During his career he held a variety of leadership roles in support of training and coaching individual producers and teams.

John has a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Saint Louis University, and a Master’s degree in Financial Planning.

Lee Thrasher, EVP, Director of Institutional Relationships

Lee Thrasher recently joined the Red Rock team as Executive Vice President. Lee will be leveraging more than 35 years of financial services and consulting experience to help Red Rock’s clients achieve their business objectives.

Prior to Red Rock, Lee served as Senior Vice President and Subject Matter Expert at Cannon Financial Institute. Lee also served as Director of Solutions Consulting at Symcor, LP where he acted as subject matter expert and banking industry expert in providing solution strategies for financial institutions. He also served as Executive Vice President for Global Concepts McKinsey & Co as well as National Sales & Marketing Director for Deloitte Consulting.

Perry L. Chesney, Consultant
Perry L Chesney is a Consultant with Red Rock Strategic Partners and a veteran of over 30 years in the Financial Services Industry.

Prior to joining Red Rock, Perry was the Senior Managing Director of Wealthcare Capital Management’s® Global Client Group and a member of its Executive Committee. Perry’s responsibilities included recruiting, training, and managing the company’s Registered Investment Advisory business (RIA) while also responsible for enterprise-wide sales of Wealthcare’s Financeware Technology platform. During his leadership, the company increased its AUM from $450 million to over $725 million and experienced increased technology sales while also implementing a comprehensive new marketing strategy.

Prior to joining Wealthcare, Perry was Senior Vice President and Central Division Manager at SunTrust Investment Services. Perry began his seven years with SunTrust by leading the Alexander Key division of SunTrust Robinson Humphrey (STRH) in Atlanta. Alexander Key was STRH’s high net worth retail brokerage firm aligned with the investment bank, which generated over $50 million in revenue. Perry was subsequently given leadership responsibility for all SunTrust Investment Services advisors in Georgia and Tennessee. In this role, Perry managed bank channel financial advisors, private bankers, and high net worth financial advisors, while continuing to lead the Alexander Key division, generating approximately $125 million in revenue for the firm.

Prior to his position at SunTrust, Perry was a Private Wealth Advisor and an Assessment Center-approved manager with Merrill Lynch where he worked for over 22 years. During that period, Perry along with his partner, developed and implemented the Advanced FA training program for the organization and worked closely with the training department and executive management to implement a Financial Planning approach to wealth management within Merrill Lynch’s Private Client division. This curriculum included technical topics, Practice Management consulting and communication skill development all while continuing to manage his own practice before going into management full time in 2002.

The professional designations, which Perry holds, are: Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA®). He is also a Registered Investment Advisor.

Perry is a frequent speaker for area Financial Planners and Investment Professionals and has done extensive speaking and teaching around the United States for Merrill Lynch as well as SunTrust.

Perry has served on the Board of Directors for the Baton Rouge CLU/ ChFC Association and the Baton Rouge Chapter of the IAFP. He served on the board of the Greater BR Food Bank from 1996 until 2002 and was the Board President in 2002. Mr. Chesney also served as Board Treasurer of the General Health System Foundation in 2002.

In January 2004 and again in 2005, Perry was recognized by Robb Reports “Worth Magazine” as one of the TOP 100 Financial Advisors in America.

Perry received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss., where he graduated cum laude and then went on to do graduate work in economics and finance at Louisiana State University.

Chris Homa, Partner- Senior Relationship Management Executive
Chris works closely with clients to define implementation strategies that drive execution and growth in their business.

Prior to joining Red Rock, Chris spent 11 years at Hartford Annuities and Hartford Mutual Funds in various roles.

Jessica Mobley, Associate
Jessica works closely with clients to ensure their needs are met. She assists the Red Rock team with maintaining client relationships and providing operational and administrative support.

Karl Stark, Partner
Karl Stark is a Principal at Red Rock Strategic Partners.

Prior to Red Rock, Karl consulted with Marakon Associates, where he helped Global 1000 companies identify, develop and implement their highest-value strategic opportunities. Karl also consulted with A.T. Kearney, a leading global management consultancy, and Sibson & Company, a human resources firm. Karl holds a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science from Northwestern University.

Karl is also a co-founder and Managing Director at Avondale Strategic Partners, an affiliate of Red Rock Strategic Partners.

Bill Stewart, Partner
Bill Stewart is a Principal at Red Rock Strategic Partners.

Prior to Red Rock, Bill Stewart consulted with Marakon Associates, where he helped Global 1000 companies identify, develop and implement their highest-value strategic opportunities. Bill also spent more than 10 years as a manager with Hewlett-Packard. Bill holds a Masters in Business Administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Michigan.

Bill is also a co-founder and Managing Director at Avondale Strategic Partners, an affiliate of Red Rock Strategic Partners.

Asim Aleem, Associate

Asim Aleem is an Associate at Red Rock Strategic Partners.

Prior to Red Rock, Asim Aleem was a manager at Ernst & Young in its Transaction Advisory Services practice.  At Ernst & Young, Asim provided M&A financial due diligence advice to numerous private equity and corporate acquirers executing deals in a wide range of industries.  Asim holds a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from the University of Illinois.
